Exactly one year on from finishing up work on Supernatural, Jensen Ackles takes to Instagram to say he’s wrapped filming on The Boys season 3.
Jensen Ackles has celebrated finishing work on The Boys season 3, exactly one year after filming wrapped on Supernatural’s final season. After beginning his acting career in 1996 with roles in sitcoms like Mr. Rhodes and Cybill, Ackles would later land his breakout role as a series regular on the long-running soap opera, Days of Our Lives. In 2005, Ackles’ life would be forever changed when he was cast in the lead role of Dean Winchester in the dark fantasy series, Supernatural, created by Eric Kripke.
Lasting an impressive 15 seasons and cementing itself as a pop-culture icon, when Supernatural finally came to a close last year, its two leading stars were certainly not left wanting for work. While Jensen’s onscreen brother, Jared Padalecki, moved onto the helm a television reboot of Chuck Norris’ hit series from the ‘90s, Walker, Texas Ranger, Kripke swooped in to cast him in his latest hit series, The Boys. Originally looking for an older actor, The Boys showrunner revealed last month that the decision to cast Ackles as Soldier Boy came off the back of a casual phone conversation between the two.
Now, exactly one year on from finishing work on Supernatural, Ackles has taken to Instagram to share a video of his last day on The Boys season 3 (via EW). During the video, Ackles says: “Alright, gang. Fun fact for yah. A year ago today, Sept. 10, 2020, was the last day on the set of Supernatural. Today, Sept. 10, 2021, is the last day on the set of The Boys. Coincidence?” Check out the original video below:
Having spent 15 years of his life headlining Supernatural, it probably comes as no surprise that Ackles marks many of his latest milestones in comparison with his work on the hit series. Yet, while he is now set to play Soldier Boy, a superhero parody of Marvel’s Captain America, Ackles’ time as Dean Winchester has not entirely come to a close. Earlier this year the actor announced that he would be executive producing a Supernatural prequel series along with his wife, as well as narrating the series as his character Dean.
As for Ackles’ last day on The Boys falling on the anniversary of his last day on Supernatural, well if anyone should be used to dealing with spooky coincidences by now, it would probably be him. Either way, news of his completing work on The Boys’ third season will come as welcome news to fans of the delightfully twisted show. With the season 2 finale having aired almost one year ago now, fans are chomping at the bit to see what warped delights Kripke and his team have in store for them. There’s no doubt Ackles’ Soldier Boy will be front and center when The Boys season 3 finally makes its debut.
